Fran, fresh out of her job as a bridal consultant in her boyfriend's shop, first appeared on the doorstep of Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield peddling cosmetics, and quickly stumbled upon the opportunity to become the nanny for his three children. But soon Fran, with her off-beat nurturing and no-nonsense honesty, touched Maxwell as well as the kids.

It's a situation of blue collar meets blue blood, as Fran gives the prim-and-proper Maxwell and his children a dose of "Queens logic", helping them become a healthy, happy family.

Fran's influence over the three Sheffield Children, though sometimes not what their father expects, is just what they need. Maggie has blossomed under Fran's care from an awkward, shy teenager into a confident young woman. Brighton is a master at mischievous pranks and is convinced that he doesn't need a nanny, and young Grace no longer has daily visits to her therapist now that Fran is there to listen.

Proudly running the Sheffield household is the butler, Niles, who watches all events with a bemused eye and levels problems with his quick wit. Niles quickly recognizes Fran's gift at bringing warmth back to the family and does his best to undermine Maxwell's socialite business partner, C.C. Babcock, in their ongoing game of one-upmanship. C.C. view Fran with a mixture of skepticism and jealousy, as she has designs on the very available Sheffield. But, Mr. Sheffield is clearly in love with Fran, and after five years, they finally wed.

Now Fran has become Mrs. Sheffield, but she's still the same fish out of water she was all those years ago, only now Maxwell has to introduce her to all his relations... and she talks like this!
